Jagatsinghpur, October 31 (Odisha.in) Malaria- a mosquito born disease has gripped several villages in the coastal district of Jagatsinghpur and killed at least five persons over past three months, local said.
The chief district medical officer Sukadeb Sethy however said at least one person has died of the disease. We have collected 62 blood samples and sent them for examination. We can confirm the cases after going through the examination report, he said.
At least one hundred people have been admitted in the district government hospital and all of them have malaria symptoms, villagers told Odisha.in.
The disease surfaced in the villages Ghadimul, Mandashai, Balikuda, Naugaon, Erasama and Tirtol. Hemanta Jena, 30 of Ghadimul village died of the disease Tuesday.
Of the admitted people at the government hospital of Jagatsinghpur, 50 belong to Ghadimul alone, villagers said.
The other persons have been killed in the villages under Balikuda, Naugaon, Erasama and Tirtol blocks, they alleged.
