Kendrapada, October 27 (Odisha.in) At least five persons were killed and 25 sustained injuries in a road accident Friday afternoon at Tangi Chhack on National Highway no- 5 Tangi police station in charge Kanduri Charan Mohanty said.
Tangi Chahack is located at the distance of about 55 km from Kendrapada and the accident occurred when a speeding Keonjhar bound bus from Cuttack collided head with a truck, he said.
Three persons died on the spot whereas other two persons died on the way to the SCB medical college and hospital at Cuttack.
Only two of the three died on the spot have been identified as Karunakar Behera (55) of village Oukhamba in Dhenkanal district and Ratikanta Swain(25) of village Banamalipur under Badamba block , said the police officer.
The conditions of at least 12 injured persons were stated to be critical and they were shifted to SCB medical college and hospital at Cuttack.
Police have seized both the bus and the truck. Driver of the bus managed flee from the spot. Driver of the bus was trying to overtake another bus in a wrong side for which the bus was collided with the truck and the bus turned turtle, added the police officer.
Palpable tension has mounted at Tangi Chhack after the accident and many agitated persons blocked the road at Tangi Chhack for about one hour as a result road traffic was affected. But police reached the spot and pacified the mob, he said.
