Jagatsinghpur, October 25 (Odisha.in) At least 23 sarapanch and similar number of Panchayat samiti members in the district of Jagatsinghpur have submitted mass resignations from their post to the authority protesting government neglect to their region.
The leaders are mostly from Balikuda and Naugaon block which the local alleged are deprived of basic facilities. The peoples representatives alleged that the government is not carrying out developmental activities because they belong to congress party and the government is headed by BJD-BJP led coalition.
The elected representatives of both the blocks led by local legislator Umesh Swain had demonstrated in front of the office of the district collector alleging irregularities in distribution of rice supplied to the region under various government schemes.
They had also alleged that there were large irregularities in implementation of other development activities. They had submitted a memorandum to district collector and other higher authorities to take stern action against errant and corrupt officials but district administration was unheard to their grievances.
Naugaon panchyat samiti conducted its monthly meeting and prepared agenda to discuss about public distribution system but local marketing inspector and other officials did not participate.
Chairman of Naugaon block Prasanna Kumar Parida alleged that his region has been completely neglected by district administration.
Protesting the callous attitude of district administration, the Panchyat samiti members and sarpanchs have sent their resignation letters to secretary of Panchyatiraj department and secretary civil supply department, he said.
