Bhubaneswar, Oct 12 (Odisha.in) Mumbai based APJ Surendra Group and Punjab based Bharati Shipyard have evinced interest to set up a Ship Building Yard Project in the Orissa Coast at Galudiha near Dhamra port.
” The proposed ship building yard would be set up at an estimated investment of Rs.22,000 crore in joint venture and the Memorandum of Understanding is expected to signed with the Government of Orissa in November next”, said the Chairman of the APJ Surendra Group, Karan Paul.
Paul, who gave a presentation regarding the proposed project at a meeting with Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik Thursday, said,” Chief Minister was serious on the proposed ship building yard and promised to extend all possible infrastructural facilities required in this regard”.
Meanwhile being satisfied over the proposal, the Chief Minister has also directed the Chief Secretary to appoint a Nodal Officer to coordinate and expedite the project, said an official spokesman.
“If materializes, the proposed Dhamara Ship Building yard would earn the distinction of being the first ever such venture in private sector in the east coast”, Paul said expecting that expeditious growth in the steel manufacturing industries would helpful for the construction of the ship building project in Orissa.
Giiving details of the project proposal, Paul said, ” it has been planned to start construction of the ship building yard from mid-November with target to complete it within five years in three phases.
An estimated 7.50 lakh MTs of steel would be used in the construction of the project, he said pointing out that ship building being a labour intensive activity, there is a scope of emploument for 41,000 persons both direct and indirectly.
The project would be put up by forming a new joint venture company and it is proposed to open one Industrial Training Institute (ITI) to provide training to the local youths particularly on the ship building technology, according to official sources.
Besides, the sources said that, the company has proposed to set up a Research and Designing Centre and Knowledge Park at Bhubaneswar. The knowledge Park envisages offering professional courses like , Business management, Fashion designing, Hospitality ,Nautical science , Food Technology and Nutrition Science.
