Bhubaneswar, October 12 (odisha.in) At least 25 relatives, few officials and two ministers from Orissa Friday went to Uttarakhand where at least 41 people from the state Thursday died in a road accident.
The ministers who have gone to Dehradun are steel and mines minister Padmanav Behera and revenue minister manmohan Samal.
The state government has also announced an ex-gratia of Rs. one lakh each to the victim’s family.
Residents at Polsara in the district of Ganjam Friday observed bandh, blocked roads demanding more compensation for the families of the victims . They also demanded the dead bodies to perform last rite.
A team of villagers including local ruling Biju Janata Dal legislature Niranjan Pradhan and Block Chairman, Pradeep Sahu submitted a memorandum to the local block development officer to vpress for their demand.
“The Chief Minister should increase of the quantum of ex-gratia to Rs.7 lakhs and take steps to handover the bodies immediately for last rights to the family members”, Sahu told Odisha.in.
A top official of the state government said the dead bodies may be cremated at Uttarakhand. However those who wish to bring them may do that.
