Jagatsinghpur, October 10 (Odisha.in) Tension prevailed at IFFCO plant at Paradeep after a group of contract labourers clashed with security personnels last night that has left ten labourers injured.
Trouble started when Tapan Swain a labourer was taking rest by using compressor fan of this plant without doing work. Samir Singh an engineer allegedly scolded him for using this fan for rest illegally.
The labourer alleged that Singh also beat him up. After the news spread hundreds of irate labourers rushed to the spot and forcibly entered in to Singh’s room.
Singh called the security personnel. The security personnels allegedly attacked the labourers, a local trade union leader told Odisha.in. This led to clash between the security men and labourers, he said.
At least ten labourers including Antrayami Behera, Dusmant Jhatei, Arjun Jati and Bisakaha Mndal have sustained injuries. As the condition of Arjun and Bishakaha were deteriorated they were moved to Kalinga Hospital, Bhubaneswar. Others have been hospitalised at Paradip hospital.
Later after being aggrieved on the activities, hundreds of labourers led by Suresh Swain demonstrated in front of plant to arrest the security men and to give compensation to injured patients. They also ransacked plant and destroyed two jeeps during clash.
Additional district magistrate, Paradip Dillip Mohanty, assistant superintendent of police R.N.Patra and other officials have rushed to the spot.
Two dozen of policemen have been deployed at the plant to avoid any untoward incident, district superintendent of police Mr Y.KJethwa told Odisha.in.
