Bhuabneswar,Oct. 08 ( Odisha.in ): Former Lok Sabha member and legislator Trilochan Kanungo has been nominated as the Chairman of new state level political outfit Samrudha Odisha which was launched at Bolangir on Tuesday, the birth day of Utkalmani Gopabandhu Dash.
This has put an end to the speculations about Kanugo’s political future for the time being.
Though Dr. Jatish Chandra Mohanty, founder and promoter of the party had earlier announced not to induct any old politician in this new outfit, nomination of Kanungo as the Chairman has proved that Mohanty is up for head hunting and would go on inducting old politicians from other parties, who feel that they have no future in continuing in the present party.
Born on 12 September 1940 at Badamulei, Distt. Cuttack (Orissa), Kanungo was educated in Ravenshaw College and M.S. Law College, Cuttack. He is a post graduate in Mathematics.
Kanungo claims that he is an Agriculturist, Economist, Educationist, Horticulturist, Journalist, Political and Social Worker and Writer, was Member, Orissa Legislative Assembly (three terms) 1971-77, 1985-89 Member, Panel of Chairman, Orissa Legislative Assembly ,Chairman, Library Committee, Orissa Legislative Assembly. He was also Mayor Cuttack Municipal Corporation for two terms 1979-80 and 1992-95.He was elected to 13th Lok Sabha in 1999.
Though earlier there were speculations that Trilochan Kanungo would join the Nationalist Congress Party along with his younger brother and former minister of State for Finance Panchanan Kanungo, both of them had kept them away from the NCP.
