Baripada, Oct. 09 ( Odisha.in): Six armed rubbers have looted Rs 35 lakhs from the Lal Bazar branch of United Commercial Bank in Baripada, headquarter of Mayurbhanj district,Orissa on Tuesday.
The branch is located near the famous jubilee library .
According to employees of the Bank, the armed robbers entered the bank around 10.20 a.m. at that time the Manager was not present .
They asked the Cashier on gyun point to open the strong room. Since the Cashier informed that the key was with the Manager, they silently waited till arrival of the Manager.
As soon as they Manager arrived, they overpowered him and took away the key of the strong room, threatening all the employees not to raise alarm. While two were engaged in looting the money from the strong room others were guarding the gate and the employees.
The total operation took about 40 minutes.
Before decamping with the money the rubbers warned the bank staff not to inform the police at least for 20 minutes, or else again they would attack the bank and slain all the employees.
Then they pulled down the shutter and decamped.
The employees told Odisha.in that the robbers were talking among themselves in Hindi and Bengali, for which it is suspected that they were from the neighboring States.
However, the police have sealed all the roads from Baripada in all directions and have started the man hunt.
The bank employees were unable to give details about the vehicle used by them for the robbery.
