Bhubaneswar, Oct,09 (Odisha.in) Putting an end to the eight year old freeze on appointments, the state BJD-BJP coalition government Tuesday embarked on a mass recruitment drive with the mid-term poll lurking the nation.
Apparently to woo the youth particularly the educated unemployed youths,Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik Tuesday directed all the government departments to immediately start the process of recruitment against the vacant base-level posts, the number of which is estimated at 36,000 in fifteen departments.
Though the office of the Chief Minister has issued a release to this effect, it is silent as to whether the recruitments would be either regular in nature , adhoc or contract basis with a fixed emoluments.
Way back in 1999, the then Congress government had signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the union government to stop on the fresh recruitment and to abolish vacant base-level posts being created on superannuation in order to wriggle out of the bad financial situation.
According to official sources, state government had abolished over 75,000 base-level s sanctioned posts during the last eight years and the growth of back-log unemployment has been in the order of over one million so far.
With the MoU still in operation, the state government resorted to introduction of self-employment strategy as an alternative to provide meaningful livelihood to the educated unemployed youths.
During the last seven years under the present government, as many as one lakh unemployed youths have been provided with jobs including under the employment Mission, the official sources pointed out.
With poll round the corner, the Chief Minister as part of the rehearsal campaign has offered the educated unemployed youths in professional, technical and general graduates a scope for employment.
The departments having large number of vacancies against the sanctioned base-level posts include home, water resources, works, orests and environment, SC, ST welfare department, school and mass education, Fisheries and Animal Resources development , panchayati raj, Agriculture, Health and family welfae, Women and Child welfare, Food supply and consumer welfare, xcise and sikhya sahayaks etc, said an official.
The vacant posts against which mass recruitment drive would be taken up include- doctors, engineers. Junior agricultural officers, soil conservation officers, assistant teachers in primary level, lectures in junior colleges, sub-inspectors, havildars, nursing and paramedical staffs, computer programmers, Excise sub-Inspectors, Supply inspectors, the spokesman said adding over seven thousand recruitments would be made to the posts of Havildar and constables.
The decision to launch fresh recruitments would help the various departments to function properly and the implementation of various programs and welfare schemes would be expedited, said the sources.
