Baxter’s Amicus model is an advanced apheresis machine, fist of its kind to be installed in any blood bank of Orissa.
Central Red Cross Blood Bank, Cuttack is licensed to prepare single donor platelet (SDP) using this machine. SDP is essentially required to save any patient having very low platelet count from the danger of severe fatal internal haemorrhage.
This product will be of immense help to cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy, haematological malignancy and some disorders of platelet.
The Principal Secretary to the government in the Health and Family Welfare Department Chinmay Basu inaugurated the operation of this machine and dedicated it to the service of critically ill patients.
The inaugural function was attended by the Chairman of Managing Committee of the blood bank Mr.Padmanav Samal, Honorary Secretary of Orissa State Branch of Indian Red Cross Society Mr.Rabiratna Das and Dr.B.Pati, Director of this blood bank.
Many eminent doctors from different faculties of S.C.B.Medical College Hospital, Cuttack, AHRCC, SVP Paediatric Institute and private hospitals engaged in critical patient care were also present on this occasion.
