Rourkela,Sept 28 ( Odisha.in ): About eight armed persons have looted Rs 35 lakhs from the Main Road Branch of United Commercial Bank in Rourkela on Friday morning.
According to available information, the Assistant Manager and some staffs of the bank opened the bank around 9.30 a.m.as usual.
Soon around eight persons went inside the bank premises and asked the staff members to open the strong room.
As they refused to comply, the unidentified armed persons bear up some of the staff members and threatened at gun point. Then they opened the strong room and decamped with about Rs 35 lakh cash.
Immediately the Assistant Manager informed the Plant Site Police Station in the city and police arrived at the spot. Ravi Kant, Superintendent of Police, Rourkela was also informed. Soon the police swing into action and man hunt started.
Talking to Odisha.in Handibandhu Swain, Inspector-in-Charge Plant Site Police Station said that all the roads have been sealed and police has started carrying search operation in all the trains leaving Rourkela to apprehend the criminals
involved in the bank docoity.
Bank staffs present during the incident were with the police to identify the criminals.
Police has been informed that the miscreants were talking in Hindi fluently during the operation for which involvement of Maoists from Sundergarh-Jharkhand border were suspected.
