Bhubaneswar, September 16 (Odisha.in ): The Nationalist Congress Party (merger of OGP with NCP) will be formally launched in Orissa on 24th September, 2007 , Sunia i.e. the Odia New Years Day as an alternative to the Bharatiya Janata Party-Biju Janata Dal in the state.
This was revealed to Odisha.in by Orissa Gana Parishad President Bijoy Mohapatra , who is likely to take over as the Working President of NCP in Orissa.This was decided finally in a meeting this afternoon, he said.
Mohapatra said that senior Janata Dal (U) leader Ashok Das will head the party in Orissa as it’s president while a number of senior leaders from BJD,BJP, Congress and other parties would also join the party to create a viable alternative to the
BJD and BJP in Orissa.
Talking about the detail programme of launching of NCP in the State, Mohapatra said that on October 02, a worker’s convention consisting of over 1,000 workers from different parts of the State would be held in Bhubaneswar which will be
attended by senior NCP leaders P.N. Sangama, former Speaker of Lok Sabha, Union Minister Prafulla Patel etc.
Some leaders of BJD, BJP, Congress, JD(U) , JD(S) etc. would formally joined the Orissa unit on the same day.
Clarifying about formation of third front in Orissa, Mohapatra said that the NCP’s main objective would to grow as an alternative to the BJD and BJP in the state and like-minded parties who would be interested to join hands with it to end the misrule of Naveen Patnaik Government and save Orissa and it’s people from exploitation would be welcomed .
