Jajpur, September 12 (Odisha.in) Hundreds of residents of Bainsipur, Hudisahi and Gadhapur villages in Kalinga Nagar Industrial Complex in Jajpur district on Wednesday gheraoed the entrance gate of Jindal Stainless Limited (JSL) demanding monthly maintenance allowance from the company.
It is the second agitation against the JSL by these villagers in a week. The villagers on September 5 locked all entrance and exit gates of JSL, demanding jobs in the plant.
The villagers today claimed that they were displaced for the JSL project and the company is not giving them appointments in the plant as per the agreement between the displaced families and JSL.
The agitated villagers tried to prevent the entry of some officials and workers of the plant for about two hours in the morning demanding monthly maintenance allowance till employment. But, they were overpowered by the company security personnel and local police.
“We have been repeatedly assured by the district administration to be observed in the JSL. But the district administration is paying no heed to our pleas. We became displaced by loosing our land and livelihood for the company. District administration took land from us and marketed them to the company at a higher price.
The JSL project stood over our land. Neither the District administration, nor the JSL management is looking into our problems,” said Lalmohan Munda, leader of the agitating villagers.
“Today’s agitation by the villagers is relating to the District administration. The district administration has assured them to sort out their grievances,” said D.M. Burma, General Manager (Human Resources) of Jindal Stainless Limited.
Kalinga Nager Additional District Magistrate (ADM), Bira Kishore Panda said, “There are 9 displaced families yet to be observed in the JSL project.
They are declared as left out by the district administration as they had not presented their papers before the administration during scrutiny of land records.
We had our meeting in my official chamber at Jajpur Road yesterday. Their grievances are legitimate and a decision to this effect has already been taken by the last RPDCA meeting. The proceeding of the meeting is yet to be notified. Once it is notified, they would be observed in the JSL plant.”
