Muralidhar Sardar, President and Laxmidhar Mahant, Secrtary of Mittal Pratirodh Manch, Sambhunath Nayak, SUCI , M.L.A., Raghunath Das State Secretary of rissa State unit of All India Krushak-Kheta Mazdoor Sangathan lead the demonstration and addressed the ralliests, appealing them not to leave an inch of land for the proposed steel plant, which would jeopardise the interests of local tribals and others.
Talking to Odisha.in Raghunath Das, Secreatry og AIKKMS said that according to the MoU signed between the State Government and Mittals on 21st December, 2006, the State Government would handover 8,422.95 acres of land to the Mittals in Patna block of Keonjhar dsitrict, which would displace 13,189 persons from Jamunapani, Barudapasi, Padmakesharpurm Nuakhaman, and 13 other villages, who entirely depend on these multi-crop lands.
Since a large number of people living in these villages have no recorded right over the lands which they are cultivating for hundreds of years, all of them would virtually become destitute under the present rehabilitation policy of the Government.
The AIKKMS and Mittal Pratorodh Manch have submitted a memorandum to the Governor demanding to take necessary steps to scrap the MoU between the State Government and the Mittals to save the peace loving poor tribals of the area.
