Jagatsinghpur, September 5 (Odisha.in) Jaundice has killed one and affected 40 other children in Orissa’s Jagatsinghpur district over past week, affected villagers said Wednesday.
The disease has affected Nabanga and Alavar villages under Balikuda block where people are consuming water that they alleged have become unsafe after the recent flood.
Since the villagers do not have any other drinking water sources, they are forced to drink from the village pond, local panchyat samiti member Harishchandra Sathapthy told Odisha.in.
Although more than 40 children have been affected by jaundice no health officials have so far reached, he said.
Purosottam Kandi a resident of Nabang village said that his two years old daughter died due to the disease. Two family members are also suffering from the diease, he said.
Villagers have informed that four Primary health centres at Borikina, Dasbatia, Osakana, and Machagaon are functioning without any doctors.
Similarly there are only two doctors at Balikuda hospital instead of five doctors.
We have sent a medical team to the affected villages” Chief District Medical Officer, Sukdev Sethy said.
