New Delhi, August 30 (Odisha.in) Orissa’s Kalyan Coomar Jena, the acting member Railway Board has been appointed as the chairman of India’s Railway Board Thursday, official sources said.
He will also work as ex-officio Principal Secretary to the Government of India, Ministry of Railways. His ascendancy to the august office comes at a time when the Indian Railways is witness to an unprecedented turn-around and is on the throes of an order-of-magnitude change.
He is the first Oriya in this top post. Odisha.in earlier on August 27 had said that the central government is considering for his appointment in this job.
Jena is at present working as a member of the board since August last year. He joined the Indian Railway Traffic Service in 1971 and had education at Madras Christian College and Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur.
He has had training in Britain on Inter-Modal Traffic at the University College of Cardiff and on Management Information System in Sweden, Germany and USA.
He had also attended the Stern School of Business, New York for training in Management Essentials for High Potential Executive.
Prior to joining the Railway Board, he was General Manager, East Central Railway, Hajipur, General Manager, North Central Railway, Allahabad, Divisional Railway Manager, Vadodara, Chief Operations Manager, Western Railway, Additional General Manager, Central Railway.
He has also worked as Executive Director (Safety) and Executive Director (Coaching) in the Railway Board earlier.
