Rayagada, August 26 (Odisha.in) Rayagada, August 26 (Odisha.in) At least 48 people were killed and over six thousand people affected by diarrhea and Cholera in Orissa’s Rayagada district over past 45 days, chief district medical officer P.Sitaram told Odisha.in Sunday.
The epidemic is alarming. New patients are still coming to the government hospital at worst hit Kashipur, he said. At present at least 50 patients are undergoing treatment in that hospital, he said.
On Saturday three persons in villages near Kashipur died. However no fresh deaths have been reported since Sunday morning, he said. The disease has gripped at least 26 villages.
The district administration has taken several measures to provide help to the victims as we as taken steps to prevent the further spread of the disease.
Officials of the district appeared more active after the visit of state health secretary Chinmay Basu to the area. While electricity was provided to the government primary health centre at Kucheipadar, the district administration promptly deployed at least 16 special officers to take care of the victims.
The officers were deployed at Mandibisi, Dongasil, Tikiri PHC, and Kasipur CHC including Kuchaipadar and have been assigned the work of bringing the patients and those dead to the dispensaries.
They have also been asked to develop contact with the family members of the victims.
The district collector Bhaskar Jyoti Sharma has also directed the sub-collector to arrange emergency meals for the victims at hospitals.
He granted 20 thousands of rupees from his Red Cross funds. The funds have been kept with the block development officer at worst hit Kasipur block for emergency expenses.
Poor sanitation and lack of awareness amongst people are the main cause of the disease..
Six teams of doctors from Bolangir reached for assistance, to expedite the service.Corporate sectors have also provided six doctors.
