Jagatsinghpur, August 23 (Odisha.in) At least three persons working for private finance company Sahara India were arrested by police in Orissa’s Jagatsinghpur district for misappropriating near about 70 lakh rupees of public money.
An audit team from Sahara India’s command office, Lukhnow visited Jagatisnghpur branch office on 3rd July ’06 and conducted audit of the transactions between 2002 to 2006 fiscal years recently, Inspector-in-charge of Jagatsinghpur police station Pradip Kumar Panda told Odisha.in Thursday.
During audit, the team detected large number of irregularities and misappropriation of fund in this branch during those periods, he said.On 3rd July’ 06, audit team had found that there was a cash balance of about 7. 15 lakh rupees in branch account although Rs 27.56 lakh were collected from depositors towards different schemes.
Similarly 141 new depositors deposited lakhs of rupees in their account but same amount were not accounted in favor of them and this fund was also not shown in official ledger, the police said.
There were number of similar irregularities. At least Rs 68.89 lakhs of rupees have been misappropriated by the branch manger and two cashiers, area manger Sahara India at Bhubaneswar Seema Das said.
Police has arrested branch manger Suresh Chandra Mohnaty, head cashier Rajib Kumar Barik and sub cashier Narayan Naik on the basis of a complaint lodged against them by Das, the police said.
