New york, August 23 (Odisha.in) The Indian American community living around tri-state area celebrated the 60th Indian
Independence at New York City on Sunday August 19th with India Day Parade.
Carrying colorful banners, bands, decorated floats, and both the American and Indian flags, the event allowed the Indian American community to share their traditional culture with the local population.
One of the major attractions was the float representing Orissa’s rich culture and ethnicity. With the image of Konark temple & three Chariots in the background, a huge Konark chakra at the center; with live odissi dance by local dancers on the top to the tune of Bande Utkala Janani became the crowd’s favorite.
It was organized by New York & New Jersey chapter of Orissa Society of Americas. Thousands of people joined the parade with bollywood beauty Priyanka Chopra leading the 27th India Day Parade as Grand Marshal. Comedian Johnny Lever was the chief guest. It is considered the biggest such event outside India.
