Malkangiri, August 22 (Odisha.in) The Special Operations Group led by Satish Gajbhiye,Superintendent of Police Malkangiri , nabbed CPI (Maoist) Motu Dalam Deputy Commander Nabeen who was involved in a number of insurgent activities in the South-Western Police range, police said Wednesday.
Nabeen the 24- year-old Maoist leader was one of the accused in the Koraput armoury raid, which had stunned everyone in the first week of February 2004, as it was the biggest raid on an armoury since the 1930 Chittagong armoury raid by the Surya Sen group of revolutionaries.
A senior police officer told Odisha.in that Naveen was also the mastermind behind the attack on the house of former Minister and present Lok Janashakti Party State president Arabinda Dhali on November 2, 2005.
On that day, armed cadres of the CPI-Maoist had bombed the house of former Minister, Arabindo Dhali, at MV55 village under Kalimela police station.
One civilian was killed in the attack and the Maoists also took away arms of at least eight police personnel who were guarding Dhali’s house. Meanwhile after the arrest, security forces are now hoping for new leads in the two sensitive incidents.
Nabeen was arrested Tuesday, under Sections 302 and 307 of the IPC and of the Arms Act and Explosive Act, after his confession of being involved in many heinous insurgent activities according S.P. Malkangiri. He has been forwarded to court.
According to Government reports, weapons, ammunition, grenades valued at Rs. 50 crore were seized by the guerillas of the People’s War Group during raids on Koraput Armoury. Seven Jawans were also killed by the assaulters and raiders.
The daredevil guerrillas had attacked three police stations at Laxmipur, Narayanpatna and Kakiriguma and the DSP’s office at Laxmipur. The rebels had also struck on the District Superintendent’s office; two police stations (rural and urban), District Jail, Treasury office.
After introgating Naveen the S.P. revealed that Nabeen was also involved in the killing of an inspector of Motu police station DP Mishra at MV-88 and attack on MV-79 police station in the district.
He has being active for the last decade and from very childhood. Nabeen had joined the rebels at the age of nine, when Andhra- Orissa Border Zonal Committee leader Damodar picked him and since then he has been active not only in Malkangiri but also in Gajapati, Koraput, Rayagada and several other strongholds of the CPI (Maoist).
