Bhubaneswar, August 21 (Odisha.in) Orissa has hiked the monthly pension of second world war veterans and their widows from Rs.500/ to Rs.1000/ an official of the chief minister office said.
The decision was taken at the 5th meeting of the Rajya Sainik Board, Orissa was held in the Secretariat, Bhubaneswar Monday.
The meeting was presided by the Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik , Orissa. The other who attended it were Chief Secretary, Home Secretary, the Chief of Staff, Central Command, Lucknow, Secretary, Kendriya Sainik Board and other Members of the board, the official told Odisha.in.
The board also took several other decisions for the welfare of the Ex-Servicemen.
At present, one of the next-of kin of the martyrs killed in Kargil War is given employment under the Government.
It was decided that it’s scope will be enhanced. Employment, either under the Government or under a Public Sector Undertaking, will be given to one member of the family of the Defence personnel killed in action.
The State Government will mobilize and contribute Rs.1.00 crore for the Amalgamated Fund meant for the welfare of the Ex-Servicemen. The Kendriya Sainik Board will also contribute Rs.1.00 crore to the Amalgamated Fund. This amount will be spent for the benefit of the Ex-Servicemen and their families in the State.
Late Padmapani Acharya made supreme sacrifice in the Kargil War. He is the only Oriya recipient of ‘Maha Vir Chakra’, the second highest gallantry award. It was decided that a road in Bhubaneswar city shall be named as Padmapani Marg.
All the vacant posts in Rajya Sainik Board and Zilla Sainik Board will be filled up on contractual basis with the Ex-Servicemen.
1652 Ex-Servicemen will be recruited to Special Armed Police Battalion. Their physical standards are to be relaxed in keeping with the norms prescribed for Central Para-Military Forces.
It has been decided to construct a Sainik Bhawan at Bhubaneswar. A War Memorial will be constructed at a central place in Bhubaneswar.
To increase the induction to the Defence Services, Pre-recruitment Coaching Camps will be organized in different districts, the official said.
