Bargarh, August 18 (Odisha.in) Thousands of residents observed bandh Saturday in several towns and villages in Orissa’s Bargarh district protesting police excesses on them during a demonstration over the deaths of two minor students in their village school.
At least 40 villagers were injured Friday after police resort to lathicarge on them when they refused to move from national high way number 6 at Godbhaga town.
The villagers were at Godbhaga protesting police inaction into the deaths of two school children at Kumelsingha village, 36 kilometers from here on 12th May this year.
The dead bodies of the children one of class two and another class three were found in the local school under mysterious circumstances.
The villagers alleged that policemen not only beat peaceful demonstrators they also attacked local shops, entered into near by school and even beat school children.
People under the banner of Citizen’s committee are observing bandh at Gosala, Rengali camp, Godbhaga and Atabira town Saturday, a senior district police official told Odisha.in.
The bandh is peaceful and road and rail traffics have remained unaffected, he said. However to avoid any untoward incident we have deployed armed policemen in the trouble areas, he said.
