Bargarh, August 15 (Odisha.in) Four freedom fighters and residents pay homage to Mahatma Gandhi Wednesday at Panimora village in the district of Bargarh.
The villagers early morning sang ramdhun, garlanded the statue of Mahatma and lit incense sticks the same way they do when they worship god.
Panimora is known as Sangrami teertha gaon because more than 1,000 people of the village had taken part in the freedom struggle and at least 32 of them were jailed during quit India movement. Four of them are alive.
They are Chamaru Paradhia, Dayanidhi Naik, Madan Bhoi and Jitendra Pradhan. Pardhia is now 96, the oldest among them.
Freedom Fighter Madana Bhoi of Panimora village participated in the independence day celebration at the village school.
