Bargarh, August 14 (Odisha.in) Police has arrested Tuesday two persons for smuggling of Urea fertilizer from state’s Bargarh district to neighbouring Chhatisgarh state, police said.
The arrested persons are Sunil Gupta and Anup Agarwal. They were taking at least 30 tones of urea in a truck to Saraipali in Chhatisgarh, officer in charge of Sohela policed station Sujeet Pradhan told Odisha.in.
While the truck belongs to Siddheswar transport, the person who was smuggling the fertilizer is Anup Agrawal. Sunil Gupta was the driver of the truck, he said.
They were going to deliver the fertilizer to Ashok Agarwal a businessman in Saraipali, he said.
Local farmers were complaining about the shortage of fertilizers since past weeks. The district superintendent of police Sanjeev Panda had ordered local police to raid various places to nab the smugglers so that the local farmers get adequate fertilizers they need, he said.
