Baripada, August 14 (Odisha.in) Flash floods caused by over flowing of Khard- khai and Bankanala river past two days have affected over three hundred families in Orissa’s Mayurbhanj district, official said.
The flood waters rushed to the villages in the low lying areas after one-hundred-year old bridge of the Kharkhai river collapsed Monday night, a district revenue official said.
The floodwater affected several areas of Rairongpur towns. Some families of ward number 15 of this town have been taken shelter in local Gupabandhu high school. Besides it also affected Bijatala, Bahalda, Tiring, Bisoi, Bansing and Bhaludhi villages, he said.
Rairongpur sub-collector Anjan Kumar Manik along with NAC chairperson Pratinanda Kanango, BJP state general secretary Rajkishore Dash, local MLA Draupadi Murmu and other NAC officials are monitoring the relief operations in the affected area.
At least 10 hectares of standing crop in the region were submerged in water and flood alerts were sounded in Rairongpur blocks.
The road communications from Bhubaneswar to Rairongpur and Rairongpur to district headquarter of Baripada and Karanjia to Keonjhar and Josipur have been disrupted.
