Jagatsinghpur, August 10 (Odisha.in) Over a hundred of students of class VI and VII are reading in a dilapidated house in Orissa’s Jagatsinghpur district as they complained that a former head master of their school misappropriated funds sanctioned to construct the building.
Majhikora primary school at Manjikora village was upgraded in 2003 -04 from upper primary school to a medium English school. The school has been admitting at least one hundred and more students since then every year.
.Under Sarba Sikhya Abhiyan Scheme, this school received Rs 5.66lakh in 1003-2004 and Rs 2.90 lakh towards up gradation of school building.
In spite of that the school building is not yet completed. The students are reading in the half built dilapidated building while many have taken their school leaving certificates to study in other schools, Village chief Mr Ratanakar Nayak told Odisha.in.
The then head master of the school Himansu Mohanty , without informing or conducting Village Education Committee meeting, had withdrawn Rs 2 lakh from bank account towards construction of school building.
Then he stopped the construction work half way. The villagers complained the then district project coordinator, Sarba Sikhya Abhiyan Scheme (SSA) against Mohanty.
The DPC visited the school and directed district inspector of schools, Jagatsinghpur to take action against headmaster for negligence of duties.
The district inspector of school suspended Mohanty on 22nd October ’05.
Mohanty was also earlier suspended for misappropriating mid day meal schemes in the school. However he was reinstated on 14th Nov’06 and posted at nearest Doval primary school in same block.
