Puri, August 11: Hindus should pledge their support with the Acharyas, Gurus and saints to enable them to protect the sacred and religious Ramasetu from destruction by humans urged Swamy Neeschalananda Saraswati, the Sankaracharya of Gobardhan peeth, Puri.
Neeschalananda Saraswati on Saturday was addressing the media persons. Revealing the plans to stop the central government the Acharya said the Parliament would soon be gheraoed to exert pressure on the central government to scrap the Setu Samudram canal project.
Reiterating his earlier stand on the Ramasetu the Puri seer said, the Ramasetu was constructed by Hanuman, Nal and Neela the followers of Bhagwan Ram in Tretaya Yuga during the accession of Sri Lanka. It was constructed for transportation and communication between the two countries till 1480 AD.
“The descriptions in the religious texts match with the NASA finding through an analysis of a satellite photo taken from space which says it as a man made structure built in 1.75 million years ago. There were elaborate descriptions of construction of the Ramasetu about its consecration and sacredness in our religious texts,” the Acharya said.
Condemning the union government’s Setu Samudram canal project the seer demanded the government should declare it as a national heritage monument and scrap the Setusamudram canal project as millions of Hindus are religiously and emotionally attached to the Ramsetu.
“If the project was completed a great religious history and a world heritage monument would be lost for ever,” the Sankaracharya said.
A hand out from the peeth also described Ramsetu as a treasure house of rare flora and fauna. “Its ridges help protect the coasts of two countries from Tsunami,” he added.
