Balasore, August 10 (Odisha.in) The additional district and session judge (adhoc) of Balasore Kunja Behari Swain has sentenced a person to undergo Rigorous Imprisonment (RI) for five years for poisoning his daughter to death, a court official told Friday.
The convict Rabindra Deuri (35) of Sarthabindha village of Singla police station also has been asked to pay a fine of Rs 5,000 and on default of payment to undergo RI for another six months.
According to prosecution, Rabindra had offered an ice-cream, to his seven-year-old daughter Kali, which was poisoned. She however fell sick and though was rushed to the hospital but doctors couldn’t save her life. She succumbed in the hospital on 31 December 2003.
“Rabindra had a love marriage with Raibani Jena of Sarthabindha village. But Raibani left him when she was tortured for dowry. She and her daughter and five-year-old son stayed with her parents,” told government lawyer Balgopal Sahu.
“On the day of incident Rabindra offered his daughter an ice-cream when she was playing along with her friends in the village field. After some hours she died in the hospital,” he added.
Rabindra was then arrested after an FIR lodged by his father-in-law Bhusan Jena and the medical report on the death of his daughter corroborated the allegation.
