Jagatsinghpur, August 9 (Odisha.in) At least three breaches created on Hansua River due to heavy rains past weeks have rendered thousands of local people homeless in Orissa’s Jagatsinghpur district, official said Thursday.
At least five thousand people of Erasama, Balikuda and Raghnathpur blocks are battling with the rainwater because of the breaches.
One 60 feet length breach was developed at Rankei area affecting the residents of thirty villages including Thalio, Olavaor, Nagpur, Alabhar, Rahan, Titira , Borikina
Tandikula, Baharana, Mulugaon panchyat under Balikuda bloc.
Similarly, another two breaches have occurred near Ersama village which local says have affected at least 2000 villagers of Somapur panchayt, Paida, Pokahripada, and Nardia.
Neither district administration nor any local people representatives have reached to affected people, social activist Mr Ratanakar Nayak alleged.
At least twenty families of Gualipur panchayat under Raghnathpur block are still surrounded with water since last three days.District administration has pressed into service a power boat to evacuate them to safer places.
Unofficial sources said that one woman of Jaisol panchyat was killed due to wall collapse while other two persons were swept away in recent flood. The situation has worsened due to heavy rain falls over last two days.
District Emergency sources said that 60.000 people were affected by this torrential rain and 49.837 hectors of paddy crops were submerged by rainwater.
180 houses were fully damaged while 3397 houses were partially damaged. 1060 persons were evacuated by the help two power boats and 16 relief camps have been opened to provide relief.
“We have provided relief to at least 3860 people” district collector Mr Pramoda Kumar Meherda told Odisha.in.
