August 9 (Odisha.in) South Korea steel major POSCO may shift from Orisa’s Jagatsinghpur to neighbouring Kendrapada district its proposed plant site, survey by local administration indicates.
The state government has recently directed us to survey lands in the seaside areas of Mahakalapada block for industry. We surveyed the areas and identified at least five thousand acres of government land, Kendrapada district collector Kashinath Sahu told Odisha.in.
The identifiede lands are located in three Gram Panchaytas of Batighar, Ramanagar and Kharinashi, he said.
POSCO is facing local opposition in the district of Jagatsinghpur where it has proposed to set up a 10 billion steel plant project.
It appears that the state government may shift the proposed site from Kujang areas of Jagatisinghpur district to this area, experts say.
“The surveyed areas are sparsely populated and the government will not face any major impediment to build any industry. We have sent a report to the government and a high level official team may visit the site shortly”, added Sahoo.
