Bhubaneswar, August 6 (Odisha.in ) OPGC (Orissa Power generation Corporation) after registering yet another year of commendable overall performance by achieving highest ever plant load factor in 2006-07 has continued its journey towards excellence in the current year.
While achieving the record PLF of 91.18% for the year 2006-07, it has got passed the mark of 1000 Loss Time Accident (LTA) free days in the month of August 06 and completed 1152 LTA free days on the close of the year 06-07.
In the recently concluded meeting, the OPGC Board have placed on record their appreciation for the achievement of an average plant load factor of around 94% for the month of April and May 2007 which has earned the compliments of the Chairman, Central Electricity Authority for contributing towards achieving a growth of 9% in energy generation in the national level during April-May, 2007..
In recognition of the dedicated effort on the part of the employees for the enviable safety records of LTA free days and as a measure of encouragement for continuing the same the company has introduced a scheme of safety incentive that would yield cash benefit to the employees in the plant in a systematic manner.
The Company has owned many state as well as national level awards and recognition like GREENTECH Safety GOLD Award 2006, Safety Award, Greentech Environment Excellence Gold Award 2004-2005, Greentech Environment Excellence Gold Award in thermal power sector for the year 2003-04 and ISO 14001 certification by BVQI in Oct’2004, OHSAS 18000 certification from BVQI etc.
On the expansion front of unit 3&4, the Company has already made good progress which has now gathered momentum with the Board’s decision to go ahead with appointment of consultants and conduct of further EIA study.
It may be mentioned here that Orissa Power Generation Corporation, which was incorporated in 1984 as a wholly owned Govt. Company, is a Public Private Partnership between the Govt. of Orissa and AES Corporation, USA, since 1998-99.The company operates a 2×210 MW coal fired power plant namely Ib Thermal Power Station, in the Ib Valley area of Jharsuguda District, Orissa.
As part of its power sector reforms, the Government of Orissa divested 49% stake in OPGC in favour of its strategic partner AES Corporation, of USA. In the post Public Private Partnership days, the company has shown consistent improvement in its operational parameters.
Currently, it sells electricity at a very competitive price to the Grid Corporation of Orissa and is the highest dividend paying company of the state. OPGC has been the first and the only disinvestment of an electricity generation business by any State in India.
