Bhubaneswar, August 4 (Odisha.in ) The rainfalls in some part of Orissa Saturday have brought cheers among its resident with meteorological office here indicating the revival of south west monsoon which was in a weak phase for the last two weeks.
‘The current meteorological conditions and interpretation of various numerical weather prediction models suggest a revival in monsoon activity over Orissa,’ S.K. Dastidar, an official of the meteorological office here, told Odisha.in.
It is because a low-pressure area is likely to form over northwest Bay of Bengal on Aug 4 along with a southward shift in the monsoon trough, he said.
The low-pressure area is likely to become more marked and move slowly in a west north westerly direction.
In this scenario, rainfall including heavy to very heavy rains are likely over Orissa. A fresh low-pressure area over northwest Bay of Bengal is also likely to form from Aug 11 onwards, he said.
The prediction, experts say, is good news for the people of the state who were anticipating a drought-like situation due to inadequate rainfall this year.
